In other news, this week seemed to have turned into Israel "Apartheid" week at work for me. Went to two events that made me feel sick, made me feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I'm not saying that Israel is above reproach, hell it does things that are wrong. I know that there are people who do think that Israel can do no wrong and I know for them it's a defense mechanism because it's such a touchy subject. What many people seem to forget is that just like in Canada, Israelis criticize their government openly- it's ok!- it's encouraged. It's part of the democratic process. There are issues in Israel, and the government, specific agencies, and the people are trying to work on them in the same way that we in Canada deal with issues. Thankfully there is no group in the U.S. firing rockets into Toronto or Montreal so that we would have to take more militaristic actions. That being said, I'm not going to go into a debate about what's wrong and right in Israel. What disgusts me and what I think is a huge insult to the people who fought against apartheid in South Africa is this comparison of Israel to the South African Apartheid state. It's just not true. It's just a complete hijacking and misuse of this concept. And having to deal with events put on by the other side all week has been draining. BUT it's also made me stronger and made me understand why my job is as important as it is.
With that I'm sorry to say that this will be the last bollywood posting. Though I'm sure I will be putting other pictures up, this is the last of the guyatus bollywood photos. I think that was actually my favourite part of guyatus.
Shana Tova to all of you and Gmar Chatimah Tova to those who will be fasting.
